Witch Shops

Over the past twenty years or so, I have gone into possibly hundreds of witch shops. None of them are exactly the same.

There's one place that changes ownershop every few years. It has been in its location close to a decade. I really loved going under the most recent owner (I'll call her L), sadly she had some major life issues and wasn't able to give her store the attention it required and was forced to sell. That means it went to an owner that reconnected the store with the owner before her. The entire atmosphere during the second precious owner was horrible. The woman (who I will not name) is predidous towards witches who are not in her coven or follow her exact path. She doesn't acknowledge her witchism or the negativity she gives off. I haven't been back since the shop has returned to her hands.

During the short time L had it, she gave the shop a total face lift. It had the atmosphere of a coffee shop, you could bring in a drink and snacks then just hang out and visit. It didn't matter if you bought anything or how long you have been traveling on your path. The exact path you follow didn't matter.

Over an hour drive to go visit the store, and I would do it just to visit the lovely, welcoming shop.

Unfortunately for me, the closest witch shops are over an hour drive from my house, and none of them are near one another. If I want to go to a store, I have to plan an entire day trip to that area.

This weekend I'm going to another shop I found over the past year. Its got a cool atmosphere and had a large collection of tarot cards. They have samples of just about every deck they carry available to look at. If you're ever in Poughkeepsie New York, go check out the Dreaming Goddess.  They carry many crystals I haven't seen in other shops. The first time I went there I got a piece of red coral. It was very cool.

I have a crystal shop that's much closer to me. They carry crystals and many objects for multiple paths. I don't see it as a witch shop. The staff are awesome and when looking for crystals, gems, sage, and other items, its one of my favorite places. When I need to talk to someone, or have a great need of grounding myself, I go to Great Barrington, Massachusetts and go into Crystal Essence.

If you're looking for a church like shop, head back to New York. The Awareness Shop has a very cool store, the purple house comes off as magical and every part of the store holds the same positive energy. They have a year and a day subscription you can order that includes monthly magical shipments. They have weekely tea parties in store and online you can Skype along with them. The first time I went in, I bought their "Circle in a Box" CD, and I'm glad I did. Check it out, its available through iTunes also.

My state has one more shop that has been around for over a decade. Sadly, it keeps moving and by the time I get the opportunity to go check their store out, they've moved again. Their hours usually stink and I never know if I'm going to have the time to locate their shop and look around beforw they close.

When I went to Salem, Massachusetts with my family, I found tons of shops- for those alone I would love to return soon. They have stores for real witches and some for the tourist witches. All were great fun to visit.

None of these places know about my blog, and I have no ties to any of them. If you check them out based on this blog, that's great! I'm glad you gave them a chance and I truly hope you enjoy them.

One day I would love to open my own witch shop. Something that reflects all of the good things from all the shops I've fallen in love with over my lifetime.

One day I want to open a witch shop/ tea parlor type thing. I will bake homemade cookies before the store opens and make jewelry, soaps, or runes after I close at night. I'll also offer consignment opportunities for local witches and pagans alike.

Witchy Mom Watching Football

I am enjoying a beautifully hot day watching my freshman play his favorite sport. I feel blessed to have the sun on my skin for one more afternoon before I'm officially back to work driving a school bus.

I dressed for slightly cooler weather thinking today was going to be showers on and off. My darn weather app lied. Once we hit 10 am, it was hot and beautiful. Now I'm stuck in pants and a hotter than usual shirt.

I'm going to ignore the feeling of being slightly overheated and enjoy the what I drove here for. 😘

It's hard to feel down or depressed when you're outside under the sun.

Thank the God & Goddess for a beautiful day!

Witch Made Treasures

Blessings All,

I created an Etsy shop today and I'm currently working on my inventory. I have just one item listed as of today, August 19, 2017- The day I created and launched my shop.

I have made many things over the years and this will be my first attempt to selling them online. I'll be making runes I also plan to sell on Etsy.

This is my preview for now. I'll let you know what happens further in time. Right now, I'm working on writing here regularly, and building my Etsy shop inventory.

In my private life, I have work, kids, sports, the mom thing, and I'm actively trying to improve my life, including but not limited to losing weight and getting fit.

I hope you have a glorious day and can take a minute to check out my Etsy shop.

Solar Eclipse August 2017

August 21, 2017 there is a Solar eclipse able to be seen from the US. This doesn't happen very often. In our part of the country we will only be able to see about two thirds of the eclipse. This only means that my photos will be almost nothing in comparison to the many people in the part of our country that can see the total eclipse.

We will be watching from one of the mountains in our neck of the woods and I plan to bring my camera and kids. I ordered some eclipse glasses that I'll probably hold on to for the next forty years or so, until the next one.

I remember when we were kids, in elementary school, watching a solar eclipse from our school yard. It was really neat. Now my 6 year old will get a chance to see one also. If it were possible, I'd have a hand-fasting ceremony with my man during the eclipse.

It is a very magical event. Even those people who "don't believe in magic" still believe in magical properties of an eclipse.

Please feel free to post your pictures from the eclipse to this post.

(Update after The Eclipse)
We watched the eclipse in Connecticut from a field on top of a mountain with my kids and my mother in law. It was awe inspiring. We wore the special glasses meant for the eclipse and though we didn't get to see a full 100% at it's peak, we did get to watch it up to about 68% and it was still really cool.

This is a moment I believe my children will remember for many years, possibly for their entire lives.

I did get some great pictures sent to me from our cousin in Oregon. I'm so glad we have family all over the country that can share in the amazing parts of life and the magic in nature.

Our Trip To Salem

We just got home from a short trip to Salem, MA.

It was quite fun. If you have money to go, please take time. Just remember it is a tourist trap. I brought my partner and our three kids because none of them have been, and I enjoyed my trip over a decade ago.

We went out there Thursday and went on a Ghost Tour where our tour guide brought us around town telling us about deaths and murders in Salem and possible hauntings around town.  I decided to go with staying on the heritage trail on Friday and stopping into each shop because that is what I really wanted to experience.

There are a ton of tour choices and the guides will tell you all about the town and what happened. The museums are pretty good too, if you have that kind of money to experience those also. The shops have much of the same items, though if you're careful and keep an eye out and look through out the entire town, you can find really unique items. I found an adorable pewter set of the Lord and Lady to go onto my altar.

It's funny, I've been studying witchcraft for over twenty years and this is the first time I've found statues of the God and Goddess that I really love and want on my altar.

I also finally got the chance to hold a deck of gypsy cards in my hand to see if I really wanted to take them home.

We stopped at the Witchcraft Victim Memorial in Danvers and discovered the Rebecca Nurse House. If we go back, we'll be making a stop there. According to the information I had available, it is $8 for adults, and $4 for teenagers. Kids under 10 I think are free. We didn't have enough time to stop there, though it has been added to my bucket list.

The Witch house is about $10-12/per person and it's a self guided tour.

I decided to spend the time we had trying to remain under budget and I spent 1/3 of the amount of money I had planned to spend on our trip by being so careful. There is a parking garage by the harbor that costs $0.25/hour and it makes parking much less expensive and the walk to everything else isn't much more.

Remember one thing for sure, if you're going to Salem, make sure you get there early. Most of the shops don't open until 10 or 11, but parking fills up by 9:30 and the traffic is horrible. I don't want to see what it's like in October.

We also chose to bring our dogs, and the hotel we stayed at made that possible. It also added to our choice of not going through museums or doing too many tours.

Over all, I am happy with my family's experience seeing Salem for their first time.

The next time I go, I'm going to plan on doing more tours or museum trips. Expect to pay about $20/person or anything really outstanding there. If you plan your trip with expectations to spend a whole lot more than you want to, it makes it much easier on your wallet when you're paying out the nose.

Most of the cobble stone walks have been redone, and they're doing a lot of construction in the area, which I believe did add to the traffic.

If you're looking for a bunch of witch shops to check out, this is a fun town. If you want history that doesn't break the bank, aim for visiting nearby towns like Danvers.
